Chai’s Island Bistro, Nobu, Stage, Salt and Prima are among the fifteen restaurants selected to showcase a mouthwatering selection of appetizers at the 12th Annual Joy of Sake, Friday, July 20 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The signature event is the largest sake tasting event held outside of Japan and provides event-goers with a rare opportunity to experience the world’s finest sakes in peak condition. This year’s event takes place at the Pier 2 Cruise Terminal in the Honolulu Foreign Trade Zone (across from Waterfront Towers).
Asian and Pacific Rim-style appetizers, prepared by some of Honolulu’s top chefs, include Thai-style Oxtail Soup with Bihon Noodles, Cilantro and Hawaiian Chili Water (Chai’s Island Bistro); Big Island Abalone with sake soy butter and dry miso with chives (Nobu); Ahi with shiso-ginger vinaigrette (Halekulani – Lewers Lounge); Tako Carpaccio with Wasabi Style Vinaigrette (Kaiwa); Panna Cotta, Fennel Marmalade, Coffee Salt (Prima); Ume French Macaroon (Cakeworks).
The appetizers have been designed to perfectly complement the range of flavors and nuances found in the best sakes.
The Joy of Sake is the public tasting event that follows the U.S. National Sake Appraisal. This blind tasting is sponsored by the Kokusai Sake Kai (International Sake Association) and conducted by a team of 10 judges from Japan and the U.S. Judges evaluate aroma, taste, balance and overall impression for each entry. Sakes with the highest score receive gold and silver awards, and all 360+ entries will be available for tasting at this year’s Joy of Sake.
