Kanu Hawaii’s first Energy Challenge kicked off on July 4. The month-long campaign calls on individuals and businesses across the state to reduce their electric and gasoline bills by 25 percent during the month and commit to long-term changes that will permanently cut energy consumption and spending
.
To encourage participation, RevoluSun will donate a 120-gallon solar water heater and Energy Industries will provide a lighting retrofit for the entire home as prizes for the challenge winners. Other prizes include $400 in gift certificates for City Mill and other suppliers of energy-saving devices. The households with the largest electricity reduction in July will win. Challenge contestants must register online to be eligible to win a prize.
